Die Musique-Deluxe-Redaktion hat lange getagt und die besten Singles der 80er Jahre gewählt.
Wählbar waren ausschließlich Songs, die zwischen dem 01.01.1980 und dem 31.12.1989 als Single oder Maxisingle/EP veröffentlicht wurden. Nicht wählbar waren Remixe oder Wiederveröffentlichungen. "Being Boiled" von The Human League schied somit aus, da es erstmals 1978 erschienen ist, ebenso "Pictures Of You" von The Cure, das als Single erst 1990 veröffentlicht wurde. Einige Singles erschienen nur in ausgewählten Ländern, beispielsweise "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" von The Smiths, das ausschließlich in Frankreich 1987 als Single released wurde.
Jedes Redaktionsmitglied bewertete alle Singles nach dem Schulpunktesystem (15 Punkte=sehr gut, 0 Punkte=ungenügend), plazieren konnten sich nur Singles, die mindestens von einem Redaktionsmitglied 10 Punkte bekamen.
